Boats and Equipment

One of the more frequent compliments we get from our guests is how great our boats are designed for comfort, safety and back deck fishing space. After looking at many production line boats, the choice was crystal clear, North River Boats was hands down the best choice for El Capitan. The semi-customized design is a 28′ aluminum boat with fully enclosed & heated cabin with air-ride pneumatic seats for everyone on board. We then outfitted the boats with twin 200hp Mercury quiet 4-stroke outboard engines, a full Lowrance Electronics HDS Carbon electronics network with GPS Chart plotter, Sonar, Color Radar, and live XM Weather and XM Radio. Safety has always been our first priority at El Capitan.  Every boat in our fleet is not only equipped with current USCG safety equipment, we have also added additional layers of safety by installing an AED (defibrillator), live satellite tracking and communication device, and a direct link to the USGC providing GPS distress locating at the push of a button. Add to this equipment our experienced captains, miles of uncrowded, highly productive fishing grounds and you’re ready to experience an Alaska fishing adventure second to none.

El Capitan has a North River boat fleet of 7 boats, with two always dedicated as spares. This ensures that in the rare instance one of our boats has a mechanical issue, we can provide a quick safe transfer on the fishing grounds to a spare boat with minimal fishing time sacrificed.

At El Capitan we believe using the best equipment available our guests will have the greatest chance to boat every fish that strikes. We have used many different brands over 30 years at El Capitan and discovered years ago that the best rod builder for salmon and halibut fishing is Lamiglas.  To compliment the finest rods, we of coarse paired them with the finest reels,  the Shimano 700LC for halibut and for salmon we use the Shimano 500LC with line depth counters.
